Permission for the flashlight body does not settle how its batteries must be transported. A basic flashlight may pass security, while its loose lithium cells, installed rechargeable battery, or separate power bank may be subject to additional packing and eligibility requirements.

If a lithium-ion battery label provides voltage and amp-hours but not watt-hours, calculate:

If the capacity is stated in milliamp-hours, divide by 1,000 first:
Ah = mAh ÷ 1,000
For example, a battery marked 3.7 V, 5,000 mAh converts as follows:

How to pack a flashlight without creating a short circuit or accidental activation

What to do if your carry-on is gate-checked—or a battery acts abnormally
Gate-check reminder: Before a carry-on enters the aircraft hold, remove all otherwise permitted spare lithium batteries and power banks and retain them in the cabin. IATA also advises removing lithium-powered devices when hand baggage is taken at the gate.
